INTRODUCTION: Marked by high levels of violence, Brazilian cities have public safety as one of their main themes in political and social debates. Despite representing an important concern in today’s society and being the object of a profusion of programs on the governmental agenda, the problem of crime is neglected as an investigative focus, even in the face of its significance given the high – and still growing – crime rates in urbanized areas of the country. AIMS: In this context, the general objective of the work is to evaluate relationships between morphology, criminality, and mobility concerning the formation of safe landscapes in contemporary cities. MATERIALS AND METHODS: With a multi-method structure, qualitative-quantitative approach, exploratory character, and applied nature, the research, still in its initial stages, is structured under two main axes, one of theoretical-methodological approximation and the other of empirical-processual experimentation. In the first, the intentions are to indicate analysis variables, define analytical criteria and select study areas, while in the second, the specific evaluation of these spaces and their integrated assessment are intended. RESULTS: As partial results already achieved, it is highlighted the preparation of a bibliometric survey on national and international journal portals, identifying theories, concepts, processes, methods, and techniques related to the theme, as well as evaluative parameters of morpho-landscape variables, in addition to methodological tests to assess investigative options. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: As preliminary final considerations, it is emphasized the relevance of deepening knowledge of structuring themes (landscape and morphology, crime and security, and roads and mobility) and the importance of constructing security indicators around road axes.

KEYWORDS: Urbanized landscape; Public safety; Spatial shapes; Urban criminality; Road axes.
