INTRODUCTION: The research is included in the recent rise in publications and initiatives directed toward ethical regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Given the disruptive potential AI-related technologies possess, several organizations have been suggesting principles and rules to guide the employment and development of AI. The research carries out a survey of proposals on this field and it advances a set of ethical principles for AI focused on the context of the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná. – OBJECIVES: The central goal of the project was to elaborate a group of principles to be used as a guideline for researches and activities on the field of AI at PUCPR. The research had as specific goals: a) Analyzing proposals of ethical principles for AI surveyed in academic, business, and governmental milieux; b) Advancing its own set of principles for other academic works. – MATERIALS AND METHOD: In order to develop the desired set of principles, the research used as subsidy several proposals for principles advanced by other institutions as well as academic papers focused exclusively on the discussion of ethical principles for AI. The initial part of the research targeted collecting the relevant literature. After the collected material was studied and considered, the research then moved to develop its own set of principles. – RESULTS: After surveying and considering a series of proposals of ethical principles for AI, the research arrived at the following set of principles: Explainability, Transparency, Non-Discrimination, Non-Aggression, Privacy, Trustworthiness, and Accountability. – FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The project finish proposing seven principles. Now it is time for discussion and improviments.
