INTRODUCTION: This paper aimed to conduct a literature review to verify the research and reports published so far in scientific journals on the symptoms and neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19, especially patients with severe disease, and to present the main results observed, in order to provide greater understanding on the subject. OBJECTIVES: This is a literature review of scientific articles indexed in the databases National Library of Medicine (PubMED), Scientific Electronic Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (VBS) and Systematic Reviews Journal (Cochrane), between the years 2020 and 2022. MATERIALS AND METHOD: For this, the descriptors “manifestations” “neurological” “symptoms” “COVID-19” were used. In the literature, a predominance of taste and smell disturbances (25-68%), headache (13-60%), seizure (5-29%), consciousness disturbance/delirium (3.3-19.6%), and stroke (0.4-4.9%) were observed. RESULTS: mMeningitis, encephalitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Miller Fisher syndrome, and PRES have also been reported as uncommon forms and isolated cases. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The most affected patients are generally white males, 40-70 years of age, with some previous comorbidity such as hypertension, obesity, or active cancer. The presence of any neurological syndrome is indicative of greater severity, longer hospital stay, and higher mortality rates.
